Old one disconnected and out, new one in, hooked back up and run before I leave.
Delivery drivers drop the box at the door. That is the job they are paid for. Getting the old one out, the new one in, the water and the power connected and everything tested is a different job, and it is the one most people find out about on the day.
I do the whole swap. Old unit disconnected, drained where it needs draining, out of the house. New one levelled, connected, run through a cycle while I am still standing there.
What I install
- Washers and dryers, including stacking kits and vent runs
- Dishwashers — the one that most often needs the cabinet adjusting to fit
- Refrigerators, including the water line for ice and filtered water
- Ovens, ranges and cooktops on an existing electric connection
- Range hoods and over-the-range microwaves
- Haul-away of the old unit
The part people underestimate
Appliances are built to a standard opening and houses are not. A dishwasher that will not slide in is nearly always a countertop overhang or a floor that came up 10mm when it was replaced. A dryer that will not sit back is a vent elbow. These are twenty-minute problems if you have the tools with you and a ruined afternoon if you do not.

Straight answers
- Will you take the old one away?
- Yes, tell me when you book so I leave room in the van.
- Can you run a new water line for a fridge?
- If there is a supply within reach under the sink, yes. If it means opening walls across the house, I will tell you that before I start rather than halfway through.
- What about gas appliances?
- I stay off gas connections. That is a call for the utility or a plumber, and I will say so rather than have a go.
