Baseboard, door and window casing, crown, shoe moulding, stair trim and handrails. It is the last thing that goes on and the first thing anyone notices, because a gap at a corner sits at eye level for the rest of the time you own the house.
Sacramento houses move on clay soil, and an older one has been moving for fifty or sixty years. The room is not square anymore. A trim carpenter who cuts every mitre at 45 degrees because that is what the chart says ends up filling the difference with caulk, and you can see it from the doorway inside a year.

After new flooring
New flooring is where most trim calls come from. Either the baseboard came off to get the floor in and now needs to go back on level with a floor that sits at a different height, or it stayed on and there is a gap along the bottom that shoe moulding has to close.
Both are normal. Which one you need depends on how the floor went in, and it is usually obvious from one photo of the wall where it meets the floor.
Matching trim that already exists
If you are adding trim to one room in a house that already has a profile everywhere else, the new piece has to match the old one or the room will read as an afterthought. Some profiles are still stocked, some have to be built up from two pieces, and some are genuinely gone and the honest answer is to change the whole room or live with a difference.

- Can you match the baseboard already in my house?
- Often, yes. Send me a photo of the end of a piece, shot straight on so I can see the profile, and I will tell you whether it is a stock item, something that can be built up, or something that cannot be matched.
- Will you do one room, or one wall?
- Yes. One wall of baseboard is still a job. There is no minimum room count here.
- Do I need this or do I need the door page?
- If the problem is a door that sticks, drags or will not latch, that is the door page. If the problem is the trim on the wall — baseboard, casing, crown, or a gap after new flooring — it is this one. If it is both, it is one visit either way.
